New format for Segway PT license plate

The license plate format for motor-assisted bicycles and small motorbikes are adapted. The dimensions of the new format are 10 x 14 cm which is the same size as for mopeds. This will replace the old format which is double the size by 1.7.2013 at the earliest.

As a temporary solution the cantons are allowed to use up the old format until the end of 2017. There is no obligation for replacement on part of the cantons.

Segway Switzerland is pleased with the changes and appreciates a quick implementation all over Switzerland. The previous format is far too big and bulky for different vehicles. Two-wheeled vehicles and especially the Segway PT are optimized in respect of vehicle size. The previous license plate format, however, has disruptive effects on both visual appearance and functionality as well as it is potentially dangerous.

Information about implementation can be obtained with the Federal Roads Office. Unfortunately, at the end of May 2013, further information was not yet available.

The legal basics were established during the partial revision of   Traffic Licensing Regulation (in german) on 30.11.2012. The legal basics are evident in Article 83 (3) (d).
